Tamper-evident Seal Design and Printing

Seals that wrap the packaging, break when opened, and each carry a unique number.

What Is a Tamper-evident Seal?

A seal is a strip that binds the closure of a package to its body, so opening it requires cutting or tearing the seal — leaving an irreversible mark of that intervention.

How It Differs from a Normal Label

A normal label adheres to one surface. A seal bonds two surfaces together — lid to body, or the two flaps of a carton. Its function comes from that bond; a seal applied to a single surface serves no purpose.

What a Seal Should Carry

  • Unique serial number: without it the seal is only a physical closure and cannot be traced.
  • QR code: the digital counterpart of the number, enabling verification.
  • Brand identity: an additional barrier for counterfeiters.
  • Tear notch: controls where the seal breaks.
  • Security feature: VOID structure, fragile material or a holographic strip.

Why Numbering Is Critical

A seal's real strength comes from a known production quantity. If you produced 20,000 seals, no 20,001st seal should exist in the field. Reserving ranges per dealer or shipment also identifies which channel a given seal came from.

QR Placement

The QR must not sit on the tear line. When the package is opened the seal is cut; a code at the break point becomes unreadable. Keep it clear of the tear notch.

Production Parameters

Circumference and overlap, material (fragile paper shows opening clearly; PP and PET are more durable), numbering scheme, QR size — at least 15 mm — tear control, adhesive matched to the surface, and roll or sheet format depending on whether application is manual or automated.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you print official government excise seals?
No. Statutory excise bands for books, music and film are issued only by the relevant government authority. We produce brand security seals, which are a commercial choice rather than a legal requirement.
Must every seal carry a different number?
Not technically, but an unnumbered seal cannot be traced. Detecting a counterfeit seal or one moved to another product relies on unique numbering.
Can a seal be removed after application?
With the right material, no — fragile structures fragment during removal. Adhesive choice matters: what holds on glass differs from what works on carton.
Manual or machine application?
Both are possible. High-volume lines need roll format matched to your applicator, so share its specifications before ordering.
